What is unusual is to mock up a specific character other than the main old gods in Lovecraft’s stories. So today, for a bit of change, I will make fun out of Wilbur Whateley:

Yesterday (October 7) was Ada Lovelace’s Day.

The Enchantress of Numbers, as she was called by Babbage, was born on 10 December 1815, and as a frail child, had plenty of “spare” time to be home-schooled by her mother, due to an obsession with rooting out any of the insanity she might had because of her father (Lord Byron). That was one of the reasons that Lovelace was taught mathematics from an early age.

Ada was introduced to Charles Babbage on 5 June 1833, they met and corresponded on many occasions, including socially and in relation to Babbage’s Difference Engine and Analytical Engine.

During a nine-month period in 1842–43, Lovelace translated Italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea’s memoir on Babbage’s newest proposed machine, the Analytical Engine. With the article, she appended a set of notes. The notes are longer than the memoir itself and include, in complete detail, a method for calculating a sequence of Bernoulli numbers with the Engine, which would have run correctly had the Analytical Engine been built.

Based on this work, Lovelace is now widely credited with being the first computer programmer and her method is recognised as the world’s first computer program.

As a mechanical focused person, it would have been difficult, if not outright impossible, to do a die on programming languages, or similar. I mean, one wich was more related to Countess Lovelace than any other modern programing languages. Thus, I chosed to represent the hardware she would have used, had it been completed in her lifetime.

So, here you have the Analytical Engine D6:

It doesn’t look like much by itself unless you’re a humongous nerd, I admitt that. however, once you stack some of them…the beauty just explodes:

Some colors have to be changed (particularly the silver metal bits, as they are too dark). Still, it looks awesome. One or two of those will end up in my private collection ^_^

As for pricing, unfortunately, 18mm square dice are waaay bigger than the 16mm round dice I’ve been using. As a result, each face of the Analytical Engine die takes a bit more than 40 minutes to etch (and I still have to paint it later). So…at 3 hours of laser per die, this is not going to be a particularly cheap die, sorry for that! )

In part, I decided to trottle back a bit from the 3 dice a week, down to 1, so I can get accustomed to it. Once I get a normal job, I will not be able to do be as creative as before, so I better learn to do less updates, but to be constant about it.

I’m a bit more active on G+, altough I mainly share photos of old dice, so old subscribers probably won’t find anything interesting (altough my FPV videos are a bit cool).

That said, let’s talk about dice.

Today’s die will remind you from the acclaimed game called “Gears of war”. I just simply drew a similar looking gear and put a number on it…not very original I must say, but it’s something I wanted to do long ago. ^_^

Someone at G+ asked one day if I could make a die with cat paws as pips and a yarn ball as sixth face. I had no doubt that doing the cat paws was easy, but I wasn’t sure about the ball, as I had never done something like that.

Aaand here’s what I got:

I’m quite satisfied with the results, especially the yarn. However, I want to rework the cat paws to make them slightly bigger, so they hace more interdigital space, and get etched properly. If you look closely, one of the digits doesn’t get separated from the main pad.

This die will be avaliable soon (once I make bigger paws).

“Redshirt” is a term for a stock character in fiction who dies soon after being introduced. The term originated with fans of Star Trek (1966–1969), from the red shirts worn by Starfleet security officers who frequently die during episodes.

So, unless your character has suicidal intentions, never, ever, wear a red shirt on a game with these dice:

I was about to make a 10 sided die with the logo, however, after looking a bit about Star Trek games, I saw that the most recent game (from Decipher, on 2002) used 2D6, so I made six siders instead.

The dice are avaliable as a 2d6 set, however, if you happen to just want one, let me know and we can arrange that too. ^_^

This particular idea (concentric partial rings) has been on my mind for quite some time now, and today I finally got to develop it.

It is not a particularly easy die to read, but still, makes for a eye catching die. I just love it, whatever you might think of. XD

The die readout is done by counting the number of green segments.

The result is astounding!

Guess wich die will get a go in my dice bag…  ^_^

It’s been a while since I downloaded the logo to “dicify” it, but didn’t got around to it until lately, when I broke the last secrets to ultimate precision with the laser machine.

Does this mean that I approve what Anonymous does? No.

Does it mean then that I dissapprove what they do? Nope.

Anonoymous is just a bunch of kids (grown up or not) with tons of good intentions. Everything is always powered by good intentions, but it always ends loosing focus and inevitably finding its demise.

In the case of Anonymous, I just thing they have the right targets, but unveil the wrong information.

I do know what kind of documents should they reveal worldwide, however, revealing it here would be pointless, I make dice, not political statements. ^_^U

Anyhow, good luck, Anon. I hope yo do find the path that the human race needs, not the one that you think we need.
